For a Facebook group you administer or moderate, pinning helps members find a welcome post, event details or rules. This guide covers the officially documented group feature. A group, Page and personal profile have different controls; do not assume a group instruction applies to every Facebook surface.
Pin a group post to Featured
- Sign into the account that has an admin or moderator role in the group.
- Open your groups and choose the correct group.
- Find the existing post you want to highlight and open the Options menu beside it.
- Select Pin to featured.
Meta’s group-pinning instructions say admins and moderators can pin posts, rules and certain features to the Featured section. New items initially appear at the top of that list, and their order can be changed. Pinned items remain there until removed.
Choose a post that remains useful
A pinned post should answer a recurring member need. For an event, include the actual date, location or joining method and a reliable update contact. For rules, link to the group rules rather than publishing conflicting versions in several posts. These are editorial suggestions for keeping highlighted information clear.
Recheck a pin after the event or promotion ends. Otherwise a prominent outdated announcement can confuse new members even if newer corrections appear further down the feed. Pinning a post is not a promise that every member will read it or that its reach will increase.
Check visibility and missing controls
Meta distinguishes public and private groups: pinned items in public groups can be seen on or off Facebook, while private-group pins are visible to group members. Review the post’s contents before highlighting contact or personal details.
If the option is missing, confirm your group and role first. An ordinary member should ask a moderator rather than trying to change group permissions. Follow the official page’s current remove/reorder instructions when a pin needs updating; unpinning and deleting the underlying post are different decisions.
