Choose the route for your situation: change a password while signed in, recover a forgotten password, or review account security after suspicious activity. Open the genuine Facebook app or type facebook.com yourself; avoid unexpected password-change links in messages.
Start with Facebook’s current password instructions
- Confirm the Facebook profile/account you intend to change, especially if you manage several identities.
- Open Facebook’s official password-help page from the signed-in service and choose the instructions for your device and situation.
- Use the current password-change control in your account settings. Follow the displayed verification and new-password prompts; read the account/profile selector before saving.
- If you do not know the existing password or cannot sign in, use the official recovery route shown by Facebook rather than repeatedly guessing.
This approach matters because settings labels and account scope are changing. Meta announced in April 2026 that Accounts Center is gradually updating to Meta Account. Some users can optionally use a single password across included apps and devices. Do not assume a change affects only Facebook, or that every account already has the same menu.
Choose a strong replacement and review sessions
Use a password that is difficult to guess and distinct from unrelated services. Keep it private. Meta’s Safety Center recommends stronger passwords, login alerts, two-factor authentication and reviewing where you are logged in. A password change alone is not evidence that every unwanted session or recovery method has been removed.
Use Security Checkup after suspicious activity
Meta’s current security-feature guidance explains that Security Checkup can help review logged-in sessions, strengthen passwords, set alerts and keep contact information current. If your account has updated to Meta Account, some protections apply across included profiles/devices; read the scope shown in your own settings.
Before signing out of a device you rely on, confirm you can access your legitimate recovery method. Never send a password, one-time code or recovery link to someone offering paid account recovery. Number Customer Care cannot override Meta’s verification process.
