You can create a Google Account for Gmail from an iPhone. Creating the account and adding it to an email app are separate steps. Use the first section for a new address and the later sections if you already have Gmail.
Create the account in your browser
- Open Google’s official account sign-in page from Safari or another browser.
- Choose Create account and select the appropriate account type, such as personal use.
- Complete the current registration and verification prompts supplied by Google.
- After setup, open Gmail and confirm that you are signed in to the new address.
If another Google account is already open, check which account is selected before creating or using a mailbox. A work or school account can have different rules, and a child’s account needs the appropriate family setup. Google controls username availability and any required verification; this site cannot reserve an address or bypass those steps.
Add the address to the Gmail app
Install or update the Gmail app from the App Store. In the app, tap the profile control at the upper right, choose Add another account, then Google. Complete Google’s sign-in and any second verification step. Select the intended address when switching between mailboxes so that you do not send a message from the wrong account.
Add Gmail to Apple Mail instead
Apple’s current iPhone guide uses Settings, Apps, Mail, Mail Accounts, then Add Account. Enter the email address and follow the provider sign-in prompts. You can also select Google from the provider list when offered. Save or finish the setup when Mail has verified it.
The menu labels vary on older iOS releases. Use Apple’s instructions for your installed version rather than looking for the long-retired Mail, Contacts, and Calendars menu or syncing email settings through a desktop computer.
Check setup without deleting anything
Send a simple message to an address you control and reply to it. If Gmail works in the browser but not in one app, focus on that app’s account setup. If neither works, review Google’s sign-in or account-recovery guidance. Keep two-step verification enabled and use the Google-branded sign-in flow; do not turn off account security to make an app connect.
Adding Gmail to iPhone does not create a second Google account or move your messages permanently into the phone. Likewise, removing an account from an app is different from closing the Google account. Avoid account deletion while troubleshooting a setup issue.
