An address ending in @verizon.net does not mean Verizon still operates its mailbox. Verizon’s retirement FAQ directs users to their current email provider, including AOL or Yahoo. Use the full @verizon.net address when signing into the provider that already hosts your mailbox.
Confirm the provider before resetting anything
Start with the official webmail service you used successfully before, or your existing app’s account information. A My Verizon password change is not a general repair for an AOL or Yahoo mailbox. If you do not know where the address was migrated, check the retirement FAQ rather than trying unrelated password-reset sites.
For an AOL-hosted mailbox, test the AOL website before changing Outlook or phone settings. If webmail works, the problem may be the email app’s saved credentials or setup. Keep that working web access while you investigate the app.
Use AOL’s sign-in recovery if AOL is the host
- Open AOL’s official sign-in troubleshooting and choose the section matching the error.
- For a forgotten identifier or password, use the linked Sign-in Helper with the recovery information associated with the account.
- Follow verification prompts only on the provider’s page. If repeated incorrect attempts cause a temporary lock, stop guessing and follow the stated waiting/recovery route.
Unavailable or incorrect recovery contacts can prevent recovery. Creating a new account does not bring the old mailbox or its contents back.
After you regain access
Review your recovery phone/email using AOL’s recovery-information instructions. Add and verify a new recovery method before removing an obsolete one. If you suspect unauthorized changes, check the account settings and secure the mailbox rather than simply returning to the app.
Know the retirement limit
Verizon says unmigrated email, contacts and calendar data from before 15 December 2017 were deleted and are no longer available for extraction. Do not pay a third party on a promise that it can retrieve that retired data.
