Facebook Photo Upload Errors: Check Permissions, Connection and the App

Sources checked: 12 October 2026.

A photo-posting error does not identify its cause on its own. First note whether one image fails, every image fails or the Facebook app itself is unresponsive. Keep the original files and any unfinished caption before testing.

Check access to the selected photo

Facebook needs permission to access the device photos you want to upload. On iPhone, permission can cover selected photos rather than the entire library. Make sure the intended photo is included in that selection; do not grant access to unrelated photos just to troubleshoot one upload.

Meta’s photo-sharing guide describes selecting photos, editing them and posting, and recommends a reliable connection for quality. Confirm that the original image opens normally in your device’s photo library before trying it again.

Try a small, controlled comparison

  1. Save the caption separately so it is not lost during a restart.
  2. Use a stable Wi-Fi connection or strong mobile signal.
  3. Try one ordinary photo that you are comfortable sharing, rather than resending an entire large album repeatedly.
  4. Check the destination and intended audience before selecting Post. Then verify whether the post actually appeared before trying again.

If a single image works but an album fails, that difference is useful evidence. It does not prove a particular file-size limit or justify repeatedly making duplicate posts.

Update and restart the app safely

On Android, update Facebook through Google Play and restart the phone, following Google’s app troubleshooting. On iPhone/iPad, close and reopen the app, restart the device and check the App Store for updates, as described by Apple. Test after each change.

Do not start by deleting the app or its data: saved drafts and local app information can be lost. If a post is subject to a group or account restriction, an app reinstall does not remove that restriction.

When you report the problem

Use Facebook’s own help/reporting controls. Include the error text, app version, destination type, network used and whether one image succeeded. Avoid attaching private images or account-recovery information to a public request for help. No outside technician can promise to override Facebook’s posting decisions.
