How to forward Yahoo Mail to Gmail, with availability limits

Forwarding can mean sending one selected message or automatically copying future incoming mail. The two actions have different requirements. You can manually forward a message in New Yahoo Mail; automatic forwarding depends on your subscription, region and desktop interface.

Forward an individual message in New Yahoo Mail

  1. Open the message you want to share.
  2. Choose its Forward control.
  3. Enter your Gmail address as the recipient and review the message and attachments.
  4. Send it, then check the destination mailbox.

This copies the chosen message. It does not move your entire mailbox, change your Yahoo login or enable a rule for future mail. Check the contents before forwarding correspondence that includes other people’s private information.

Automatic forwarding in the older desktop experience

Yahoo’s automatic-forwarding article explicitly applies to its older desktop interface. It says the feature requires Yahoo Mail Plus and is unavailable in some locales. Do not buy a plan solely because an old article promises the setting will appear.

  1. In that interface, open Settings, then More Settings and Mailboxes.
  2. Select your primary Yahoo mailbox.
  3. If Forwarding is available, enter the Gmail destination and choose Verify.
  4. Open the verification message in Gmail and complete Yahoo’s confirmation instructions.

Confirm the destination carefully. A typing error could send future correspondence to the wrong person. Send a harmless new test message to Yahoo and check whether it reaches both accounts before relying on the setup.

If your account uses New Yahoo Mail

Do not assume that the older path or feature availability applies. Follow the New Yahoo Mail help section for your account and region. If automatic forwarding is missing, use manual forwarding while checking Yahoo’s current options; avoid third-party “unlock forwarding” tools that ask for your account password.

If verified forwarding stops working

Check the destination address, its Spam folder and any Gmail rules. Compare a new test message with older mail: automatic forwarding is about incoming messages, not an automatic historical-mail migration. Also check whether the required Yahoo feature or plan remains available to the account.

Stop forwarding before you abandon or lose control of the destination mailbox. Keep both accounts’ recovery information current. For a missing feature or account-specific problem, start at Yahoo Help rather than an unverified support phone number.
