Separate a Lexmark printer’s network connection from its computer print queue. First check whether the printer itself is ready and has joined the intended network. Only then change a driver or queue. Reinstalling software cannot fix a disconnected network cable or an unsupported wireless setup.
1. Identify the connection and the point of failure
Write down the exact model, connection type, full display message and what changed recently: router replacement, password change, office move, new computer or OS update. Check the model manual to confirm that Wi-Fi is built in or that the required wireless option is installed.
| What you observe | Investigate next |
|---|---|
| The printer cannot produce its own report or shows a jam/service error | The printer’s local readiness; follow its message before network changes. |
| A network report says the connection is not established | Cable, wireless setup or network access. |
| The printer is connected but this computer cannot reach it | Network path, current address, discovery rules or an office print server. |
| Other computers print successfully | This computer’s selected queue, driver and connection details. |
| A job reaches the queue but stalls | Paused/stuck jobs and the printer’s current ready state. |
2. Read the current network report
Use the exact model’s instructions to display or print its network setup report. Note connection status, active interface, network name and assigned address. Keep the report private: it can contain network identifiers.
For the MB2442/MB2546/MX421/MX521/MX522/XM1242/XM1246 family, Lexmark documents a report under Settings > Reports > Network > Network Setup Page. Other models use different menus. The family’s network troubleshooting guide explains checking the report’s connection status.
3. If Ethernet or Wi-Fi is not connected
Ethernet: make sure the cable is securely connected to the correct printer and network ports. If practical and approved, compare with a known-working cable or network socket. Ask IT about an inactive office socket rather than assigning an arbitrary printer address.
Wi-Fi: verify the intended network name, current password and supported wireless security mode. A printed router label may not reflect settings that have been changed. Check the manual for the model’s supported bands and adapters. Do not lower router security based on a generic article.
Lexmark’s CX532/CX635/XC2335/XC2342 guide checks the selected adapter, network name, password and security mode. Its menu path applies to that family, not every Lexmark. Use the matching guide when Ethernet and wireless interfaces appear together.
4. If connected but not discovered
Use the printer’s current report or display to obtain its address; do not rely on an address saved before a router change. If the model provides an Embedded Web Server, open that known local address in a supported browser on the permitted network. Viewing it can help distinguish a network path problem from automatic discovery failure. Do not bypass a browser certificate warning or expose this page through router port forwarding.
A guest network or office network segment may intentionally prevent a computer from reaching the printer even when both have internet access. Matching the first digits of two addresses is not a sufficient test of network routing. Give the report to the administrator, who can check the permitted path and print-server configuration.
If the local page opens but the computer still cannot print, compare the queue’s destination with the current device information. Use the model’s supported IPP, AirPrint or driver route; ask IT to update a managed queue rather than overwriting a shared configuration.
5. Configuration changes and resets are later steps
The older Lexmark P910 Series Utility procedure is not a universal current configuration method. Use the exact model’s present documentation. If a stable address is needed, ask the network administrator whether a reservation or an approved static configuration is appropriate; never copy an example address into your own network.
Before removing a queue, record presets and any special tray or finishing settings. Cancelled jobs need to be sent again from their original files. A network or factory reset can remove working configuration and require all users to reconnect, so do not use it as the first diagnostic step.
If networking works but software is missing or incompatible, see our Lexmark software installation guide. If the connection never becomes ready, collect the model, report and exact error for Lexmark or the office administrator.
